Here Are Four Ways For You To Give This Holiday Season

The holidays are here, from Thanksgiving to the New Year, and can be busy and chaotic. Not only do we need to keep up with our regular schedules, but we are compounded with more responsibilities. These may include shopping, social events with family and friends, and keeping up with holiday traditions.

However, we sometimes forget one of the real reasons for Christmas. It is giving not only to our own family or friends but also to others. There are different ways to give and you need to find what works for you. It could be a monetary donation or time given to something or someone in need. Our giving can from our hearts to something we believe in.

Here are four ways for you to give this holiday season to others.

  1. This is a perfect time of the year to add a new Christmas tradition. Get a money jar, and any loose change you and your family have, drop it in the jar. Next December, count how much you have saved. Put that money toward a family in need or organization that you feel compelled to give to. Don’t forget about your local foster care organization. The children are always in need of clothes, school supplies, and toiletries. The older foster children that are “aging out of the system” need basic items too.

2. Look around the house, and as you get ready to find room for new Christmas presents. You could put together a box of old toys, books, and clothes. These may be items that you may not use anymore. You could take your “giving box” of slightly used articles to a women’s shelter or children’s service center. Your local church thrift store may need the items you are donating.

3. Donating some time is a great way to give. You can give your time to your local church, nursing home, or an organization looking for volunteers. This is a great way to give back and make a difference to someone or something.

4. Rather than give a gift to someone not knowing if they will like it there is something better to give. Donate money to an organization in that person’s name is a great way to give and keep giving!

Keep your old traditions and start some new traditions of giving throughout the year. Christmas is not the only time to give to others less fortunate than us. People and animals need help throughout the year not just at Christmas. A good Bible verse to read is 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 on being a cheerful giver.
